Community Supports connects people to their communities and helps them build relationships with the people they meet. As individuals become known, they develop friendships with the people they encounter in classes, gyms, volunteer work, and their support circle expands. The goal is to facilitate each person’s unique plan and to make sure each person has a weekly schedule that reflects their specific interests and provides opportunities for continued connections to neighborhood life. Some people have also elected to find paid jobs through Job Path’s employment programs. If support on the job is needed, the Community Supports team can provide it.

Rather than remaining on the sidelines, Job Path’s Community Supports Team helps people actively participate in the life of their communities. Jonathan is taking a sculpture class at the School of Visual Arts. Catherine visits a senior in Harlem to walk her dog, Tiger. And a group of participants “get it on” by playing basketball every Monday at Recreation Center 54. Many of the people who use Community Supports also gather at Job Path’s Life Path Center every Friday along with their support workers. The Friday morning conversations and activities support people as they share ideas and solve problems together.
Each of the people we work with has a weekly schedule full of activities. Click here to listen to Alvena talk about her busy week, which includes volunteering at the library and playing basketball.
